Farmhouse with attached barn. C16/C17 with possibly earlier origins. Barn has C19
alterations. Farmhouse considerably altered in C20. Farmhouse rendered stone
rubble and cob. Concrete tiled roof with tall front lateral hall stack with brick
shaft, inserted brick and stone rubble stack at left end and rendered stack at right
end, heightened in brick. Barn of stone rubble and some cob, with brick dressings.
Corrugated iron roof with gable ends.
Farmhouse of 3-room and cross-passage plan, but aligned with former service room at
upper end, converted to a parlour in C19 and now reverted to storage with external
access only. Hall and inner room to right of cross-passage with thick dividing cob
wall between them. Short gabled wing to rear of inner room, leanto stair turret in
the upper angle with access from rear of hall. Original roof does not survive, so
not possible to tell whether inner room an addition. Front wing consisting of long
range of storage sheds the loft formerly used for labourers accommodation with
access formerly from the main dwelling. Barn attached at left, upper end, C17 core
heavily remodelled in C19 but retains original roof structure. C19 gable-ended
horse engine house to rear.
Farmhouse. 2 storeys. 2-window range. C20 fenestration. Leanto concrete tiled
roof to porch. Front wing has 2-window range and 2 plank doors. Barn has front and
rear cart entrances with brick dressings to the window and door surrounds.
Interior. Farmhouse has chamfered headrail and part of plank and muntin screen, 3
planks wide, between cross-passage and hall, the muntins chamfered. Hall fireplace
rebuilt. Chamfered cross ceiling beam and bressumer. C17 stair turret doorway with
chamfered, scroll-stopped surround, possibly reset. Boxed in axial ceiling beam to
inner room which has 2 small C18/early C19 cupboards in the partition wall.
Barn has fine roof structure of 3 raised cruck trusses, the feet resting on short
timber wall plates. 2 tiers of threaded purlins and ridge purlin. Typical C17
dovetail-style collars. The third truss towards the left gable end has an unusual
cambered saddle, whereas the other 2 trusses have the usual 'E type' apex.
