Description

SX 79 SW HITTISLEIGH

9/151 Furshamdown Cottage

II

Farmhouse, possibly farmhouse and adjoining cottage formerly. Probably C18.
Plastered cob on rubble footings; rubble stack topped with C19 brick; thatched
roof. 3-room house facing south-west with axial stack serving back to back flues
right (south-east) of centre, baffle entry and outshots each end. 2 storeys.
Balanced 5-window front of C19 and C20 casements some with glazing bars and (one
single fixed light towards left end) with leaded rectangular panes. Door right of -
centre with hipped thatch-roofed porch. Roof hipped each side and carried down
over flanking outshots. Plain carpentry detail inside. Windows each side of
existing doorway seem to block former doorways suggesting that original arrangement
was one 2-room farmhouse to left with adjoining 1-room cottage.
