Early-mid C19. 3-storeys, two and three windows. Painted brick. Moulded
stone eaves cornice and slated roof. Gauged near-flat brick arches and stone
cills to sash windows with glazing bars. Modern shops below. Finely gauged
elliptical arch over Thompson's Yard at left. No 60 together with Nos 2 and
4 Thompson's Yard (qv) is of special interest as the birthplace of the novelist,
George Gissing.
