Cook house, now practice rooms. c1814, by Edward Holl, Navy Board architect. Yellow stock brick with rubbed brick dressings and a hipped slate roof. Single-depth plan. Late Georgian style. 3 storeys; 2:4-window range. EXTERIOR: A symmetrical front with deep overhanging boxed eaves, rubbed brick flat arches to a doorway with door of 6 flush panels and 3-pane overlight, and 6/6-pane sashes with 3/6-pane second-floor sashes. The shallow returns have blind windows, and the rear has a narrow central possible former window rising through two storeys, bricked up. To the left is a later single-storey block with two 8/8-pane sashes. INTERIOR not inspected, but noted as having a stair flight with uncut string and stick balusters in the right-hand room. HISTORY: Shown in 1840 as the cook house for the hospital, with right-hand fumigation house. Included for historic interest with the hospital (qv).
