House, now two. Mid-late C15, altered C16, extended to rear
early C20. Timber-frame, partly cased in brick, with
weatherboarding, brick ridge stacks and hipped tiled roof with
small gablets and rear catslide.
PLAN: Wealden plan with C18 continuous rear outshut and E rear
C20 wing.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys; 3-window range. Left-hand brick section,
centre and right weatherboarded. Central recessed entrance and
C20 door, 3-light C20 casements, 2 to the left of the
entrance, and C20 windows in the end returns. Rear has a pair
of mid C20 large hipped dormers over the stairs, with single
casements, above a C20 full width continuous outshut, and an E
gabled wing with a lateral C20 stack.
INTERIOR: central hall divided by late C16/early C17 axial
moulded beam, with a large lateral fireplace in the rear wall
of the right-hand room; dogleg stair extends back from the
central room.
HISTORY: probably originally a Wealden-type house with jettied
front and recessed middle bay, with the central open hall
floored and the left-hand ridge stack inserted C16, and
refronted and the jetty underbuilt C20.
