Pair of artisans' cottages, framing the approach to Asmuns Place, Nos 5-59 (q.v.), an important cul-de-sac based closely on a group illustrated in Unwin's "Town Planning in Practice". Barry Parker and Raymond Unwin. 1908. Painted pebbledash with tile hanging to gable end of No.4, weatherboarded parapet to first-floor balcony of No.2; tile kneelers to gable ends. Roof, of tile with swept eaves. Two storeys. Single-ended hall house type, with hall wing of one-window range to gable-facing half dormer; French door with sidelights to crosswing. All openings are flat arched, many with weatherings. Entrance to No.2 set I' in canted recess, the left side continuous with deep canted bay becoming balcony to first floor; attic light to gable peak may not be original. Elevation to No.4 asymmetrical. Chimney breast and tall stack to party wall at inside corner of crosswing. External gable stack to return of No.4, ridge of party wall and rear slope of No.2. Forms a pair with Nos. 1 and 3 Asmuns Place (q.v.).
