Description

SX 89 NW CREDITON HAMLETS HARFORD LANE

7/105 Great Bar ford

II

Farmhouse. Probably C16, extensively refurbished in C19. Plastered cob and
rubble; stone stacks topped with C19 brick; thatched roof. L-shaped building.
Main block facing south-west has 3-room-and-through-passage plan with inner room to
right (south-east). Gable-ended rear kitchen block behind service room. Massive
volcanic stone lateral stack projecting to rear of hall, projecting end-stack to
inner room and outer lateral stack to kitchen. On inner side of kitchen, roof
carried down over outshot sheltering rear passage door. 2 storeys throughout. 3-
window front of entirely late C19 fittings. 4-panel door left of centre with
overlight and slated monopitch hood on curving wooden brackets. Large ground floor
3-light casements and smaller 2-light casements in first floor dormers under
gabled roofs with shaped barge-boards. All windows are late C19 and have glazing
bars and many original glass panes. Interior not inspected but no features
earlier than C19 are said to be exposed and roof inaccessible. Many are probably
hidden since layout is distinctively C16.
