Description

MANSFIELD WOODHOUSE HIGH STREET SK 5463 SW (south side) 7/49 No.18 (Army Stores) G.V. II House. Mid C18, altered C19. Coursed squared rubble. Welsh slate roof with lower pitch at rear. Single gable stack. 3 storeys, 2 bays. Windows are plain sashes. Front has off-centre recessed door with a pilaster to left. To left, shop window with pilaster and curved fascia brackets. To right, C20 shop window with pilaster. Above, 2 sashes with keystoned segmental heads. Above again, 2 sashes. East gable has to left, C19 mullioned casement. To its right, 2 doors in chamfered stone surrounds. Above, to left, wooden cross casement, and to right, C18 chamfered mullioned casement. Known as the Wolf Hunt House and reputed to have been the home of the Sherwood Forest wolfcatcher.
