Description

ST 96 NE CALNE WITHOUT DEVIZES ROAD, Sandy Lane
(east side)

5/59 No 6 (Northend Cottage)

II

Bowood estate cottage, early C19, squared ironstone rubble with
thatched half-hipped roof and east side wall stack with paired
diagonal shafts. One and a half storeys, picturesque cottage
style with stone mullion windows and iron small-pane casements.
South end wall has 2-light window over stone-slate lean-to on
timber posts, gabled in front of door. West side has eyebrow over
2-light and ground floor 2-light and 3-light windows. The
thatched cottages of Sandy lane are an outstanding example of an
estate village in the picturesque manner.
