House and village hall, formerly school, dated 1873, built for the
Bowood estate. Squared rubble stone with stone slate eaves roof,
stone mullion windows in flush surrounds, barge boards to main
gables and flush quoins. No 57, to left, has ridge stack, gable to
front with 2-light window and hoodmould over door and 2-light
window in stone slate lean-to. Main hall gable projects adjoining,
date plaque in gable and long mullioned 3-light schoolroom window
below. To right, wing gabled to east, south front eaves-breaking
shallow oriel with 2-light window and barge boards. East end wall
has 1-2-1-light canted stone bay. Paired gabled wings to rear
right. Included for group value. Marked as school on 1863 estate
map.
