BURNHAM MARKET,
MARKET PLACE (North side),
No 15

(Formerly listed as Forge House)

GV II

House, now shop and dwelling. Early C16, much rebuilt late C18/early C19 and with mid C19 alterations. Stone and brick with painted brick front and pantile roof with gable end stacks. 2 storeys; 2-window range of 2/2 sashes over canted bay to left, part-glazed door, overlight and hood, and 2/2 sash to right. Various casements and extension to rear.
INTERIOR. Both floors have very fine set of roll-moulded beams and joists, complete with cornices on north and south walls. The tie beams are cranked to the first floor. This timbering appears to be in situ. On ground floor there is a small open fireplace the herringbone back of which may survive on an earlier larger one and which incorporates C16 bricks. Roof is later C18 with collar trusses. The early C16 ceilings represent a significant survival.
