GV II

House. Early/mid C19. Yellow-grey stock brick, Flemish Bond
with stucco doorcase and plinth. Welsh slated roof. 2 yellow
brick chimneystacks with bands and oversailing courses, orange
clay pots, right-hand chimney taller to surmount 2nd floor of
No.27 adjoining to west. Central staircase plan. 3 bay facade
slightly cranked in centre to follow street frontage.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys, attics and basement. First floor has 3
mid C19 sash windows with divided glazing under cambered
rubbed brick arches, central window narrower. Ground floor has
2 similar windows and central doorway raised above 4 nosed
stone steps flanked by simple wrought-iron railings. 8 raised
and fielded panel door, lower 2 with arched heads, reputedly
brought from Bailey Hall and reset, plain glazed rectangular
fanlight, with rusticated stucco Gibbs surround. Recessed
segmentally arched basement windows in plinth. Roof with 1 box
casement dormer at right.
Rear has margin glazed French windows at right, projecting
rear outshoot at left formerly containing washhouse and
stable.
INTERIOR: Drawing Room, right-hand ground floor has white
marble C19 fireplace surround, with shelf supported on moulded
consoles, plaster cove and scotia cornice. Staircase dogleg
plan with narrower open well, open string, stick balusters,
moulded handrail, Tuscan column newels. Cellars with brick
paviour and stone flagged floors, wine cellar at rear with
stone staging and brick support.
