No.29)

GV II

Two houses, now in united use and ownership as public house,
with tenant's flat over, and interconnecting internally. Late
C17 with C18 and C19 alterations. Timber-framed, stuccoed and
plastered. No.29 has masonry lined stucco front, No.31 has
stucco ground floor and pebbledashed colourwashed first floor.
Old tiled roofs.
EXTERIOR: 1 storey and attics (No.29); 2 storeys and attics
(No.31), which has a mezzanine floor at rear below long
downward slope of slip roof. 2 bay (No.29) and 3 bay (No.31)
structures. Ground floor of No.29 has 2 flush-set 12-pane sash
windows with weatherboard heads; right of centre is recessed
6-panel door, upper 2 glazed, with flush frame and cornice
hood on cut profiled brackets. No.31 first floor has 2
flush-set 2-light 24 pane wood Yorkshire sashes with
weatherboard heads. Ground floor with two C19 4-light
projecting oriel bays carried on cut brackets, with moulded
mullions, lattice pattern leaded glazing, and old tiled
lean-to single storey, central half glazed door.
Rear single storey colourwashed brick lean-to Welsh slated
outshut to No.29; No.31 has yellow brick Welsh slated
wash-house outshut.
No.29 with 2 gabled dormers with 3-light wood casements with
divided glazing. No.31 has 2 gabled dormers with 2-light small
pane casements; tall red brick stack with 3 orange clay pots,
lengthened when No.31 constructed, on rear slope of roof of
No.29. No.31 has square rear stack, and at right (west)
substantial red brick chimney of four shafts clustered around
square central stack, with 4 orange clay pots.
INTERIOR: opened out into single bar area with openings into
No.29, heavy section central binder, and principal posts
exposed, C20 fireplaces, 1960s bar counter. Upper floors not
inspected.
No.31 is included in the list for the first time.
