GV II

Semi-detached houses. c1825, with late C19 alterations and
additions. Stucco front, brown stock brick, laid to Flemish
bond, and stucco to rear and outshoots. Hipped Welsh slated
roofs above moulded cornice,with central stuccoed
chimneystacks.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys, 4-bay front, with recessed single bay
wings, that of No.11 at left now overlapped by curved front
return of Nos 3-9 adjoining. Second floor with 4 recessed
6-pane sash windows; first floor with 4 recessed 12-pane sash
windows above band. Ground floor with 4 recessed 15-pane sash
windows with semicircular heads, within outer arched recess
with projecting impost band, rising from stucco plinth.
Recessed wing at right has double arched recess on ground
floor, with C20 fixed 6 pane window. Entrance at right-hand
side has late C19 multi-panelled half glazed door, with late
C19 canted bay window with dentil course and heavy moulded
cornice supported on colonnettes.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
These houses form part of a group of similar pairs, some now
altered and linked. They were part of the growth of Hertford
along North Road towards the County Hospital during the late
1820s. It was shown as 'North Crescent' on an 1830 map.
