Stable block, now house, with garden walls to rear. C17 or
earlier, mid C18 with C19 alterations, converted late C20. Old
red brick in lime mortar laid to English bond, refaced on front only in
yellow/salmon brickwork in Flemish bond with Portland stone
impost band to centre. Hipped concrete pantiled roofs.
EXTERIOR: a long one-and-a-half storey building with 2 storey
projecting central tower and slightly projecting flanking
sections with half pediments forming lean-to roofs against the
tower. 9 wide round-arched openings with floor cutting across
opening at impost level. Symmetrical C20 stained timber glazed
door and sidelights in each. Dentilled brick eaves cornice to
side wings and to half-pediments of centre.
Central tower has a C20 2-light casement over the central
arched opening, which has a block rustication surround in
brick, and a C20 panelled hardwood entrance door and
sidelight. Dentil eaves cornice, pyramid roof and gilded wind
vane.
INTERIOR: much altered during C20 alterations, but retains to
rear some oak timber-framed partitions and heavy chamfered
beams with heavy square joists.
The former stable was built as part of the service buildings
to Ware Park.
Pomarium stands astride the south wall of a large late
C17/early C18 walled garden. Red brick walls approx 3m high
with some yellow/grey stock bricks in south side, largely
Flemish bond. Modern gateways formed in south, west and east
sides.
