Lodge, gate and screen walls at east
entrance to Arboretum

Lodge, adjoining gateway and screen walls to Arboretum.
1851-52. By Henry Moses Wood, Corporation Surveyor. Lodge, red
brick with ashlar dressings and plain tile roof, with a
truncated ridge stack. 2 storeys, 2 bays. L-plan. Gabled wing
facing entrance path has a canted bay window with a renewed
casement above under a label mould. Door in right return under
mid C20 porch.
Adjoining concave screen walls with chamfered coping and
cast-iron railing. In the centre, 4 square gate piers with
traceried panels and pyramidal caps, and 3 cast-iron gates.
Part of the original scheme of the Arboretum, which was laid
out in 1851-52 by Samuel Curtis of London.
