Former assembly rooms, later used as post office. C18, altered 1790 by
John Carr, further altered 1807, refronted 1836 by Thomas
Winter, converted C20. Brick, with painted ashlar front. Roof
not visible behind pierced balustrade. Classical Revival
style. Plinth, rusticated ground floor, heavy entablature and
modillion cornice. 3 storeys; 3 window range. The upper floors
are divided by Corinthian threequarter columns. Three 15-pane
sashes with cornices on scroll brackets. Above, three 9-pane
sashes. Ground floor has to left a double door with traceried
fanlight, and to right, 2 glazing bar cross casements with
cast-iron window guards.
INTERIOR: ground floor refitted mid C20.
