Lodge, weighbridge cabin and boundary walls. c1872, with C20
alterations. For Sanderson Brothers. Brick with stone
dressings and hipped slate roofs. Lodge has 2 rear wall
stacks, cabin a single one.
Blind backed 2 storey lodge is end-on to the street, with a
single margin light sash above and a blocked window below,
both with panelled lintels. Opposite end has an unglazed
window on each floor, the lower one flanked to left by a
4-panel door. The side facing the entrance is blank above and
has a central round-headed doorway with a window to right.
Windows have segmental heads. Single storey weighbridge cabin,
also end-on to the street, has a blocked round-headed doorway
with keystone. Facing the lodge, a fielded 4 panel door with
overlight, and to its left an unglazed double sash. Left
return has an unglazed window. INTERIOR not inspected.
Gateway has brick piers with guard stones and stone caps, and
C20 gate. L-plan boundary wall, approx 2.5m high, has a brick
coping. To left of the lodge, approx 30m long. Return along
Wilfrid road, approx 150m to the end of the crucible steel
shops, has stepped coping. To right of the lodge, approx 30m
with ramped coping.
These buildings are part of the last surviving large crucible
steel works in Sheffield. Lodge and cabin disused at time of
survey.
