4/159 The Roundhouse
Detached cottage. Late C18. Local lias stone roughly cut and squared; hipped thatched roof; brief; chimney stack. Single
storey with attic, 2 bays, of which the easterly bay is circular on plan. Horizontal bar casement windows to both
levels, both bays; plain boarded door set into curve on north side. Interior not seen. The reason for the circular
portion unexplained: this may merely have been a cottage ornee: the circular portion could be the base of a windmill
(but not recorded on this site in Windmills of Somerset, Coutherard and Watts, l978).
