Not long before 1735 when Frances, Countess of Hertford, wrote "without partiality
I think (it) is in itself much prettier than that at Twickenham". Flint. Stone
band. Domical vaulted roof. Round-headed niche. The Countess, daughter-in-law
of the 6th Duke, created a picturesque garden with a canal and a cascade; of
which the grotto is the only relic.
