Description

SJ 51 SW UFFINGTON C.P. UFFINGTON

3/80 Nos.1 and 2 The
- Malthouse

- II

Malthouse, now divided into dwellings. Late C17, possibly early C18 with
C20 alterations. Timber frame with painted brick infill and lower wall
sections; tiled roof; end stack and 2 ridge stacks. Frontage end-on to
lane; principal part of 3 storeys, square framing of light scantling,
6-panel height above ground floor which is in brickwork; 4 evenly-spaced
windows to second floor, to first floor over ground-floor windows; all
in C20 casements. C20 flat-roofed porch to centre entrance and gabled hood
over further entrance to left end. Lower 2-storey wing of 2 windows and
in similar style attached to left-hand end. Light framing suggests a late
date, consequently the brick ground floor could be contemporary. The
building was probably once weatherboarded.
