Base of former cross, date uncertain but possibly late medieval. Roughly
cubical stone block, half sunk in surface of field, with square housing for
shaft in centre of upper surface. Item is now an isolated feature in field,
but there is a hollow way passing on roughly north-south line c.20 metres to
the west. Possibly associated with other ancient crosses in Burnley area
(vide Bennett, History of Burnley). Said to have been Chartists' place of
assembly in C19.
