Description

TL 14SW OLD WARDEN

5/118 Queen Anne's Summerhouse

- II

Isolated house, probably a hunting lodge. Plaques show Shuttleworth emblem
and 1876 or 1878 (plaques rather eroded). Gauged red brick with artificial
stone dressings. Small building of square plan with circular corner turrets.
W elevation has remains of wood door surround, formerly consisting of
rusticated plasters supporting segmental pediment, containing semi-circular
fanlight over door of moulded octagonal panels. 3 other elevations each have
round-headed window with artificial stone keystone and imposts. Each
elevation has balustraded parapet, again of artificial stone, and turrets have
plain coping in same material. Interior: SW turret retains evidence of
formerly containing staircase rising to flat roof. SE turret contains plain
fireplace.
