Description


TQ 2981 NW CITY OF WESTMINSTER LANGHAM STREET, Wl 46/21 25.2.82 No. 38 GV II Terrace house. Latter part of C18, refronted c.1900 but retaining original interior features. Red brick, slate roof. 5 storeys (originally 4) and basement. 3 windows wide. Stone banded ground floor with ornate neo-Flemish doorway to centre. Sash windows in brick mannerist architraves; string courses, parapet with coping and cornice. Ornately patterned cast iron area railings. Interior retains numerous original features including stone staircase in spacious compartment with square iron balusters and mahogany handrail with voluted curtail; ground floor rear room has Coade stone chimneypiece overmantel with wreathed classical tondo, panelled alcove and dado rail; 1st floor has connected drawing rooms with reeded frame lion mask corner blocked opening - probably early C19 - but the rear room with elegant late C18 plasterwork ceiling; high quality door and window furniture throughout with transitional Neo-classical detailing including overdoors and chimneypieces on 1st floor etc. Listed for interior features.
