Three terraced houses. Nos$3 and$5, c1788, No34, c1792. Multi-coloured stock
brick, No 35 rendered. 4 storeys and basements. 2 windows each. Originally
residential, the houses entered retail use in the late 1830s and early 1840s.
No 33 - Ground floor with C20 shopfront. Gauged brick flat arches to recessed
sashes; some original glazing. Parapet. Interior has original stair with column
newels and stick balusters (partly panelled in). Stairwell with plain panelling;
original doorcases. 1st floor front room, original plain panelling, 6-panel doors,
skirting board and cornice. 2nd floor front room, plain panelling to dado level,
4-panel doors,. corner fireplace containing a cast iron surround of c1830 with
acanthus ornament. 3rd floor front rooms with prominent central beam with the
valley of the roof rising up either side. No 34 - Ground floor with C20 shop and
front. Gauged red brick flat arches to recessed sashes; some original glazing to
2nd floor. Parapet. Original staircase, as above, and form plan. Included for its
group value. No 35 - Ground floor with mid C19 shopfront having elaborate and
enriched console fascia brackets. Glazing and shop doorway altered but 6-panel
house door with H hinges and rectangular overlight is original. Mid C19 stucco with
keystones to flat arched sashes: 1st floor of 9 panes probably original. Parapet.
Roof repaired late C20 with concrete tiles but retains some early chimney pots, one
stamped "G Randall, Bagnigge Wells". Interior has panelled entrance passage
terminating in an archway with moulded pilasters. Original features such as an
arched niche on the southern wall just discernible on ground floor. Original stair
with column newels and stick balusters. .Stairwell has plain panelling. 1st floor
rear room with original cupboard above the corner fireplace with shelves and
fastenings intact. Front room has original shutters, within having retained their
original paint; later C19 fireplace with mirrored overmantle. Panelling to wc at
half landing. 2nd floor rear room has panelling to dado level and corner fireplace
with original cupboard recess and shelves above. Front room with good corner
cupboard of some age with dentil cornice and scrolled shelves behind a glass door;
fireplace c1840 with curved cast iron surround. Third floor similar to No 33.
