Surviving portion of arcade of hall of Hospital of St John.
Founded by Henry II in 1133; existing building late C12 with
later alterations, much restored C20. Coursed limestone rubble
with limestone dressings; stone slate roof. 4-bay Transitional
arcade with 4 broad pointed double-chamfered arches to front
and rear on squat columns with scalloped capitals, chamfered
bases possibly C20 reconstructions. Rafter roof probably C19
with later repairs; inside wall to right has 2 small blocked
round-headed doorways, rectangular opening above, now blind,
has chamfered reveal in dressed stone and relieving arch over.
Cottage formerly built into bay to right now removed.
