2 houses, possibly former almshouses. Early C19. Coursed
squared limestone with ashlar dressings; Welsh slate roof.
Stone right-end stack with 2 octagonal ashlar flues with
castellated tops; rebuilt brick ridge stack; brick left-end
stack apparently shared with No.6 Gloucester Street (qv).
2-storey 5-window range. First floor has five 2-light
chamfered stone-mullion windows with leaded lights under
hoodmoulds, second from right blind to right. 4 similar
windows to ground floor, 2 to right (No.2) with C20 timber
mullions and casements. 3 doors; to left (No.4) 2 plank doors
in chamfered stone surrounds with basket-arched heads under
hoodmoulds; to right (No.2) C19 four-panel door in similar
triple surround with blocked doorways to left and right all
under one hoodmould. Shallow plinth; quoins to right corner.
Gable to right has moulded coping with carved kneeler;
corbelled-out stone plaque in moulded surround with no
inscription on right return is on face of stack expressed in
ashlar on upper storey, flanked by 2 single-light windows in
chamfered stone surrounds with hoodmoulds. One C20 patent
rooflight to front slope. INTERIORS not inspected. Central
doorway said to have led formerly to an alley named The Paen.
