Terraced houses. Dated 1795 in a plaque above the first floors
of nos 22 and 24, inscribed 'CHARLTON PLACE 1795'. Developed
by James Taylor. Yellow brick set in Flemish bond, roof
obscured by parapet. Three storeys over basement, two windows
each except nos 10 and 36 which have three windows. The
terrace forms a shallow concave crescent. All openings except
entrance to no 12 and ground floor of no 36 have gauged brick
heads. Round-arched entrance with cornice and fanlight to nos
14-28; no 10 has late C20 shop front; no 12 has flat-arched
entrance with overlight and bracketed canopy; no 30 has
panelled pilasters on base supporting an altered cornice; no
32 has reeded pilasters, cornice on consoles and overlight
with decorative glazing, nos 34 and 36 have C20 replacement
doorcases. Some panelled doors. Ground-floor windows
round-arched except nos 34, and no 36 which is tripartite. All
upper windows flat-arched. Sashes of original 6/6 design to
upper floors of nos 12, 14, 18, 22-26, 30-32, 36. GLC plaque
in memory of Caroline Chisholm, philanthropist, on no 32.
Parapet; stacks to party walls. No 10 has a slightly recessed
curved corner into Camden Passage, two-window range in Camden
Passage with cambered arches and second floor much rebuilt;
parapet. Cast-iron railings to area.
