and attached walls and gates

II

Rectory, now 3 dwellings. 1824; extended in 2 stages, mid/late
C19. MATERIALS: Ham Hill stone ashlar, hipped slate roof to
centre block, with rendered stacks to former side walls, that
to the right is stone with a cornice an string course; slate
roofs of side wings hipped to each side with brick stacks to
outer side walls.
PLAN: double-depth plan with 2-storey lean-to to the rear of
the central block.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys; symmetrical 3-window range to the main
block: one-window range to both later C19 two-storey side
wings. A wide flight of steps leads up to the Tuscan-style
porch of the original building; in this block all windows have
flat gauged stone arches over C19 horned 2/2-pane sashes,
diminishing in size towards the top. Both the side wings have
one large plate-glass tripartite window to each floor, those
to the ground floor under gauged segmental arches and gauged
cambered arches to the first floor. The wing to the right is
stepped-forward from the main block, that to the left is
set-back.
INTERIOR not inspected but noted as having flagstone paving in
the hall and an early C19 staircase to the rear right; this is
open string with stick balusters, fretted ends and wreathed
mahogany rail and curtail step.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: a high rubblestone wall with Ham Hill
stone coping extends forward (south east) for approx 30m, then
curves in to meet late C19 Ham Hill stone gate piers to the
front of the house; these have plinths, coved cornices and
square, swept domed caps; the wide wooden gate has a frame of
2 squares with diagonal cross-braces to each and 4 horizontal
rails threaded through the whole width.
