Gateway attached to Thornton Hall
and Edgecumbe Hall

GV II

Wall, piers and gateway. c1830. Red pennant rubble and
limestone ashlar. Wall extends approx 40m from SE corner of
Edgecumbe Hall (qv), has panelled piers to the left-hand end,
rusticated corner piers, and a good ashlar archway, with
paired fluted half pilasters to a panel above, entablature and
pediment with foliate carving, and architrave to the doorway
with a scrolled head.
