GV II

Town house. C17. Painted slatehanging on timber-frame to
front, originally jettied; hipped asbestos slate rear wing
with lateral rubble stack on the left. Double-depth plan plus
2 short rear wings at right-angles, wing straddling ope
(passage). 3 storeys plus attics; 2-window range. Unusual
early C19 hornless sashes with glazing bars: on the left pairs
of tripartite sashes; on the right a pair of 16-pane sashes
over a pair of 16-pane sashes plus pair of central sidelights.
Ground floor has wide through-passage (ope) towards left;
central house doorway and two C20 shop fronts; a small shop
window left of the ope and within ope and larger shop front
with glazing bars on the right. INTERIOR: original oak beam
and joist ceiling visible to ope with ovolo-moulded bressummer
set back from front proving former jetty. Rear has C20 window
over late C18 or early C19 30-pane hornless sash.
