Old School House

Detached house. C18. Rubble, rendered to upper part of right gable, plain tile
roof with C19 brick gable stacks and coped verges. A plain rectangular block set
on the hill slope which creates a cellar in the left half, modified by a later
single storey addition to the left; also lean-to addition to right, and paralled
range at back, neither of these are of special interest. Two storeys, attic and
basement, 4 windows, all 9-pane sash in plain stone painted surrounds and stone
cills, but no window to bay 2 at first floor. To the basement a pair of C20 sliding
garage doors; in each gable a 2-light wood casement lighting the attics. C20 door
gives entry through lean-to on right gable. Continuous moulded drip above both
ground and first floor windows. Lower wing , left, has one sash in surround as
to principal block, and a large C20 paned casement. The building is prominent
on the old road rising to the south exit from the village.
