8/253 The Dairy House (formrly
listed as House immediately
GV II West of Wytherstone Farm)

Detached Dairyman's House. Later C17. Rubble-stone walls. Thatch
roof, slightly hipped at left hand, gabled at right hand. Brick
stack, right of centre, and at right hand gable. 2 storeys. 5
windows, 2- and 3-light wooden casements with glazing-bars. Wooden
cills and lintels. Blocked doorway towards right hand end. Front
door, wood with glass panes, C20, Wooden lintel over. Former
Dairy left of present entrance. Interior: Dairy with roughly
chamfered beams in a cross. Central post on a stone base, inserted.
Two open fireplaces, with chamfered wooden lintels, C17. In north
gable-end, spiral stair in beside fireplace, plank door. Bread oven
in right fireplace jamb. Roof construction: collars pegged to side
of principals, c.late C17.
