Former Malt-house to rear of 28 High
Street & bordering Adies Alley

Former malt-house. Late C18 with later alterations and
additions. Brick with tile roof. Long 4-storey rectangular
structure, gable facing. End has 4-light wooden-mullioned
window to ground floor; 1st and 2nd floor loading bays with
paired plank doors with hoist bracket over; timber lintels.
Left return to Adies Alley has cogged brick cornice and varied
fenestration: unglazed windows, mostly segmental-headed;
4-light windows to ground floor; windows above mostly
shuttered, with some mullioned windows to 1st floor and 1st
floor loading door; left end is C19, with segmental-headed
entrance and window. Right return similar, but fewer openings;
later loading bay under gablet to right of centre. Rear has
pointed window with intersecting glazing bars. INTERIOR: heavy
beams to floors; king post trusses; some remaining hoppers;
some windows retain sliding shutters with wooden handles. An
interesting industrial survival.
