Terraced row of 6 cottages. Mid C19, altered. Scored stucco
(Nos 57-59) and roughcast render on brick and all painted
white, with sandstone dressings and slate roof with brick
chimneys. Linear double-depth plan, all single-fronted, with
entrances to Nos 51 and 61 in gable ends, and various back
extensions. C17 vernacular style. A 2-storey 11-window range
(2 windows each except No.61 which has one window at 1st
floor). Large central gabled porch to Nos 55 & 57 with steeply
pitched roof almost reaching the eaves of the main range, with
a 2-light mullioned window in the front and side-wall doorways
with stone lintels, and a steeply-pitched roof with projected
eaves and verges; flush doorways to Nos 53 & 59, which have
gablets over the windows above. No.51 has a 6-light
mullion-and-transom window at ground floor and 2 cross-windows
above, No.59 has similar fenestration, but all the others have
altered glazing. Ridge chimneys. Gable-end porch to No.51.
Good example of Clifton estate housing in Lytham. Forms part
of group of six similar blocks on this street, and is included
for group value.
