GV II

Shop and house, now offices. c1850. Ham Hill stone ashlar;
hipped slate roof with wide eaves, and brick stack to
left-of-centre on party-wall. U-shape plan with rear wings.
2 storeys with attics. Shop to the right (No.18) is
symmetrical 3-window range: house to the left (No.20) is
2-window range with a door to the right. Steps with wreathed
iron handrails up to both doors; the doorcases have
cushion-moulded pilasters with a diamond-shaped panel below
consoles supporting a flat hood; both doors have shallow
overlights with Gothic-style glazing, that to the right is
C20, that to the left is original, with 3/3 vertical panels, 2
of which are now glazed. All windows have moulded architraves
with keystones, the shop has lower sills at plinth-level and
C20 plate-glass to both sides; all others are 8/8-pane sashes.
Right rear wing, once stables, is now altered to a dwelling,
that to the left is part of the offices.
INTERIOR: No.18 has a central staircase, No.20 one on the
right, both have stick balusters and turned newels; 4-panel
doors and stairs to boarded attics.
