29/07/76 Garden wall, gate piers, gates and
railings to south of The Vicarage
GV II
Wall, gate piers, gates and railings. 1700 and 1860. Coursed
limestone rubble walls, ashlar piers with wrought-iron gates
and railings. The wall, approx 1.5m high, runs south, from the
south-west corner of The Vicarage (qv) for approx 100m, then
turns eastward, where it has a plinth, in part, for approx
150m, to gates in North Street, which have gate piers with
moulded cornices and swept, domed caps. The entrance to The
Vicarage to the north-east, is by a flight of steps from
Church Path; these are flanked by similar gate piers, that to
the left is attached to a substantial coped coursed
rubblestone wall which sweeps up with the steps and attaches
to No.2 Court Barton (qv). The railings, which surmount the
wall and enclose the garden, are low square-section alternate
loop-and-rail design; those on the wall are embedded in a
hedge. The double gates are of similar design.
