SD4761NW CASTLE PARADE
1685-1/6/44 Posts (two) at north-east end, to
south of Church Steps

GV II

Two posts. c1800. Dressed sandstone. 1m high. Octofoil on plan
and slightly tapering with a slightly wider flattish cap of
similar plan, topped with a cast-iron ball.
HISTORY: placed to demarcate the boundary of the Castle
Parade, which was laid out on the site of the ditch around the
northern and western sides of the Castle (qv) as part of the
improvements to the prison and law courts; associated
therefore with 4 similar posts at the south-west end of Castle
Parade (qv).
