Hospital. c1776. Brick; hipped Welsh slate roof with gable to
front; 3 brick ridge stacks (reduced). 3 bay plan, the central
bay advanced under pediment, with 2 wings.
3 storeys; 9-window range: C20, 6/6 sashes under gauged brick
flat arches; 3/3 sashes; moulded and modillioned eaves,
continuing as cornice to pediment, which has tripartite light
with 3/3 sash under semicircular gauged brick arch.
Central entrance: half-glazed, 2-panel door and ornamental
fanlight, recessed under painted open pediment stone hood on
scrolled consoles and plain pilasters; ornate C19 porch with
stone dressings; flanked by 6/3 sashes under gauged brick flat
arches; stucco storeyband. Insurance mark.
2-storey wings with three 6/6 sashes, and 6/3 sashes over;
left-hand wing raised C20, but retains eaves detail.
Rear: 5-window range with advanced wings to sides; 6/6 sashes,
with 3/3 sashes over; 6/3 sashes and stained-glass lights to
ground floor; gauged brick flat arches; storeyband; moulded
and modillioned wood eaves; 4 roof-dormers with 3/3 sashes.
INTERIOR: wrought-iron dogleg staircase with stick balusters;
secondary open-well, late C19 staircase with stick balusters.
Attic: winder stair; 6- and 4-panel, and plank doors. 2nd
floor: cast-iron Doric pillars; wall cupboard. 1st floor:
cast-iron Doric pillars. Ground floor: overlight; panelled
doors; polychrome tile floor, as to chapel; some decorative
plasterwork; stained-glass windows to chapel.
