Pedestal tomb: very early C19; stone and wrought-iron. Square
in plan. Slightly-weathered top with moulded edge, carrying
square upstand, cavetto moulding and small, pyramidal top. Below
frieze with vertical leaf moulding all round: sides moulded rim,
within a slightly raised oval panel with moulded edge for
lettering: paterae in corners. Quarter-square, very attenuated
balusters, gadrooning to capital, leaf carving to stem. Railings
larger square corner posts, originally with urn tops; between bars
with finial tops; one side now missing, bottom of many bars rusted
away. Finely carved: lettering good, little weathering.
Commemorates James Wood, died 1803, other deaths recorded, mostly
Later. Forms close group with Wooley and child headstones,
(q.v.).
