Country house, now conference dentre. Late C19 but incorporating the
fabric of a late C17 house. Coursed and squared sandstone rubble with
ashlar dressings, part Welsh slate and part stone slate roofs. Irregular
plan with main range aligned east/west facing south, main central entrance
flanked by projecting cross-wings, several decorative axial stacks. Two
storeys, attics and cellars. South front: string courses which continue
over windows as labels, decorative bargeboards to gables, assymetrical
arrangement to elevation with 1:1:1:1:1:1 bays, each with single vertical
glazing bar sash windows, projecting canted gable ends to cross-wings flanking
entrance in second and fifth bay entrance with lean-to single-storey porch
immediately to left of projecting wing to right with shouldered head to outer
doorway and flanking lights, inner 4-panelled door. Interior retains a
mutilated late C17 staircase with turned balusters and square newels. Also
fragments of C15 glass in the staircase window. (RCHM, Vol III, p 63).
