Description

KENNERLEIGH
SS 80 NW
6/49 Lower Woodbeer
-
- II

House, former farmhouse. Probably C16 origins with C17 improvements. Plastered cob
on rubble footings; rubble stacks with C19 and C20 brick tops; thatched roof. 3-
room-and-through-passage plan house facing south with inner room at left (west) end.
Rear lateral stack to hall and end stack to inner room. Continuous outshots along
rear. 2 storeys. Irregular 5 window front of late C19 and early C20 casements with
glazing bars including a symmetrical 3-window arrangement to left (hall and inner
room) of 3-light casements around secondary door inserted to inner room. Plank door
towards right end to original through passage. Roof is half-hipped at each end.
Access to interior was not possible at time of survey although passage was seen to be
lined with C16 oak plank-and-muntin screens, chamfered with step stops. The house is
unmodernised and is thought to include many other C16 and C17 features.
