Description

HOLCOMBE ROGUS FORE STREET, Holcombe Rogus
ST 01 NE
5/113 No 2
-
GV II
House. Early or mid C19, maybe earlier. Plastered stone rubble maybe with cob;
stone rubble stacks topped with C19 and C20 brick; slate roof.
Plan: 2-room plan house facing south-west. Central entrance hall. The right room
has a rear lateral stack and the left room has a gable-end stack. 2 storeys.
Exterior: symmetrical 3-window front, garden floor 16-pane sashes (the left one
horned) and first floor casements with glazing bars. Central doorway contains a
plank door with a flat hood on shaped brackets. Roof is gable-ended to left and to
right it is continuous with that of the adjoining house.
Interior: not inspected. Nevertheless the house appears to have been little
modernised this century and probably contains much C19 joinery detail and may
contain earlier features.
This is one of an attractive group of listed buildings in the centre of the village
on the way up to the Church of All Saints (q.v) and Holcombe Court (q.v).
