Detached cottage. C17. Roughcast cob on stone footings; gabled-end thatched roof.
2 room, through passage plan house with continuous outshut to rear. End stacks,
external to left, both with brick shafts. 2 storeys.
Front: almost symmetrical 3 window range; all 3-light casement windows; 4 of the
casements retain their HL hinges. C20 tiled, open porch. 3 C18 or C19 1st floor
casements to rear, with later 2-light windows to ground floor; one late-C19 2-light
window to right-hand end.
Interior: left-hand room with 2 chamfered ceiling beams, ovolo moulded with 2
fillets and moulded run-out stops; moulded joists. An rsj replaces the bressumer
between this room and the former passage. Right-hand room with 2 plain chamfered
crossbeams with run-out stops.
Roof: 3 trusses, principals morticed at apex, halved collars, all pegged. Brooke
Cottage forms part of a group of roughly contemporary cottages that includes Nos.3
& 4, Exton and Orchard Cottage (q.v.).
