The Memorial was unveiled on 11 November 1928 on Kingsway Ossett. It was moved several yards in 1954 to enable road alterations. In 2001 the memorial was moved to its present location in the Market Place. Until 11 November 2018 the Memorial bore no names of the men and women of Ossett who lost their lives in two World Wars. 402 engraved names were unveiled by Ossett children on that day and a further seven names were added to the granite blocks laid around the base of the Memorial. They will now be remembered in death as they were known in life. By their Names.
