Railway bridge. c.1840. By George Stephenson. For the Manchester and Leeds Railway
Company. Rock-faced stone and ashlar. Tall round arch, the voussoirs aligned to
courses, with imposts returned inside long tunnel. Arch is flanked by battered
pilaster buttresses and has band above which sweeps down as coping to retaining wing
walls. Parapet with flat coping.
