Road bridge. First stone bridge 1517, widened 1632 and again in 1875 (Sowerby Bridge Guide, p 32; Sowerby Bridge Civic Society, p 6). Coursed squared stone and cast iron. Three shallow recessed round arches; triangular section cutwaters to south side, eastern one rebuilt, and to east end on north side; the wider iron super-structure of 1875, supported by the cutwaters on the southern side and by two round piers on northern side, has latticed base and balustrade with round-ended panels and panelled standards with pyramidal finials. The town was named after the bridge.
