House and attached barn. Late C17. Large dressed stone, stone slate roof.
2 storeys. 2-cell house forming with barn an L-shaped plan. House has basket
arched doorway on skewbacks with chamfered surround to left. Ground floor
windows are double chamfered mullioned; 1st floor windows are chamfered
mullioned. To right of door is 5-light window (lacking 2 mullions), with former
7-light window over lacking mullions but retaining 2 king mullions; 4-light
window (lacking 2 mullions) with same over. Coped gables with kneelers,
2 stacks to ridge. Right hand return wall has 2-light window to gable. Rear
has chamfered mullioned window of 3 lights, with to either side a 2-light
window. 1st floor has 3 chamfered mullioned windows of 2 lights. All lack
mullions. Attached to left hand end is single-aisled barn. Coped gables with
kneelers and quoins. To south-west, barn has segmental arched cart entry on
skewbacks next to aisle which breaks forward and has segmental arched doorway
with chamfered surround next to arch-headed light. Rear of barn has mistal
doorway with tie-stones and straight lintel at right angles to house doorway.
An inspection of the interior 10 years ago revealed the unusual feature of an
original door entry leading from the house directly into the barn placing this
building in the long-house tradition.
