Country house. Dated 1699, raised and refronted mid-late C18. Stuccoed;
Welsh slate roof. 3 storeys, 7 x 3 bays with single-bay addition to front
right and wing to rear right. Plinth. Rusticated quoins. 2 steps to 6-
panel door with plain overlight in bolection-moulded architrave with
pulvinated frieze and segmental pediment; linked apron to architraved sash
above has date 1699 and sill with motto 'JOIR EN BIEN'. Sashes with hollow-
chamfered sills and bead-moulded surrounds (mostly concrete) to other
ground- and 1st-floor windows. 1st-floor band. 2nd-floor sill band links
sashes mostly in original stone surrounds. Cornice and blocking course to
hipped roof with rendered stacks to side ridges. Added 2-storey bay to front
right has sash to each floor. Rear: Roman Doric stair-window has sashes with
glazing bars. Left return: central ground-floor window blind, outer windows
have lowered sills; sash with glazing bars to lst-floor bay 3; 6-pane sashes
to 2nd-floor.
Interior: entrance hall has wooden sidewall fireplace with consoles and
frieze with trophies; enriched plaster wall panels; acanthus ceiling feature.
Staircase off hall to rear left has cantilevered treads and wrought-iron
balustrade with wooden handrail; enriched inner columns to stair-window;
plaster wall panels in stair well, modillioned cornice. Ground-floor room to
rear-left has ornate plaster ceiling depicting scenes from Aesop's fables;
room to front-right has a domed niche, elaborate frieze and Rococo
plasterwork to centre and corners of ceiling.
