C18. Illustrated in J M W Turner's drawing of Kirkgate, dated 1797 (British Museum).
Colour-washed brick. Pantiled roof. Three storeys. Three bays: cased flush-framed
sashes with glazing bars. Two doorcases with Tuscan ¾ columns, pulvinated frieze and
open dentilled pediment, enclosing doors with semi-circular fanlights: perhaps early
C19 as they are not shown in Turner's drawing. Central doorway with moulded stone
surround, also early C19, leading to a through passage which must have been made since
1797, and incorporating part of the plaster ceiling cornice of the original interior.
Early or mid C19 shopfronts with panelled pilasters and moulded cornices. Rear has
flush-framed sashes and flush-framed staircase window with semi-circular head and
intersecting glazing bars.
